In mid air we have a turn around

ba-plane.jpg
Well, every trip has its miss haps. We had settled down on the plane for the long haul trip expecting things to go smoothly. I was kind of glad that we had managed to survive Heathrow. The pick ups in Bo’ness went to plan. Everyone was ready and David Hannah did a wondrful job as our taxi driver.

Anyway we were now in the air four hours of flying under our belt. I had watched a movie and was thinking nearly half way there, when an announcement came over the speaker. “We are experiencing a little technical trouble. Now it is nothing to worry about, however as the Captain I feel it is safer to turn the plane around and head back to Heathrow”, now what was really going on? I guess we’ll never know.

When we landed at Heathrow at least a couple of fire engines were standing by. The Captain sounded a bit more relieved as he spoke to us this time. He told us that there was a hissing sound coming from one of thewindows in the cockpit and it had gradually got louder. We were flying of Terhan, when he made the announcement the first time and he thought perhaps that’s not the safest place to land. So he turned the plane around and flew home. Personally I don’t think we’ve been given the full story. Another passenger was told that the fault was to do with communication equipment.

We all duly got out of the plane, received hospitality vouchers and were given a time to go back to the airport, which will be later this morning. We have been told our flight will go at 2.30pm our time and arrive in Chennai local time at 4.55am. So in a few moments we’ll be off to the airport again. In all these things God is working out his purposes. I’m sorry for our friends in Chennai, who will have been expecting us to be with them today. Thanks to the wonders of the mobile phone I was able to contact them and give them an update regarding our trip.

Having read your blog last night and being excited for you all as you ventured out on your trip, it was more than a little concerning to hear of not only your delay but also your circumstances in church this morning. Having been flying for so long to turn back must have been very frustrating and concerning for you all. However, God has kept you all safe and hopefully you will be jetting off this afternoon on your mission without any further set backs or hitches. Remembering your needs are always met and there is always a plus side you’ll get to take in an extra in flight movie and exceptional cuisine!!! God bless you all, our prayers are with you. Vikki xxx

Certainly an action packed opening to the trip! Glad everyone is still in good spirits (spoke to Mum on the phone) and hopefully the loss of a day on this trip of a lifetime will not affect things too much. Happy trails……

Hello everyone, glad you are all in good Spirit! there must have been a very good reason to turn back – be positive, as I am sure your are – you are now en route and things can only get better. Think of all the wonderful things you will be able to do to help others less fortunate than ourselves – who may never get a chance to fly or travel at all – and the lost day will be made better by the amount of giving that will take place once you arrive. The journey will be totally worthwhile. God Bless – take it east – take care.
    Regards to all

Having read the previous comments I understand that by now you will have landed and are hopefully able to have some time to recover from your eventful journey. I hope this is a wonderful and valuable experience for you all.
The Scripture Union camp went really well and just showed us that although we did not have many leaders organised on the run up to camp – God provided and used a young team (and Andie!) in more ways than we could have ever imagined. Never underestimate His power.

    love Wendy
